Student Back-Up Care

Student Back-Up Care

Now serving UCSF Students!
Beginning July 1, 2020 access to 10 days of care

UCSF Family Services and the Student Services Committee are excited to share with you that UCSF has expanded Bright Horizons Back-Up Care program to students! While we know that many UCSF student families are seeking longer-term alternate care as a result of COVID-19 school and care disruptions, we hope this program will help with short-term needs and encourage you to review other child care resources available to the UCSF community at this web page.

The program offers high-quality back-up care when you need to be at school or work and your regular child or adult/elder care is unavailable.

Sign up and reserve back-up care when:

• Your child’s school is closed
• A regular caregiver is unavailable
• Adult and elder care support is needed in their home or yours
(Note: Due to COVID-19, Bright Horizons has suspended mildly ill care.)

Program Details
• Access up to 10 days of back-up care per academic year (July 1-June 30)
• Center based care: $30/child or $55/family visit
• In-home care: $10/hour for up to 3 dependents
• 4 hour minimum for all care requests

COVID-19 Policy
Learn about Bright Horizons’ back-up care COVID-19 policy, including health screenings, exclusion criteria and mask/face coverings at www.brighthorizons.com/covid19.

If the Back-Up Care Program is unable to provide you with the care it typically covers, you may be offered out-of-network reimbursement of $100 per day to offset the cost of care you source on your own. Each reimbursement day counts as a back-up care day. At this time, the program does not provide mildly ill care or serve households that meet the exclusion criteria listed in Bright Horizons’ back-up care COVID-19 policy. In such cases, you might also be eligible for the $100/day out-of-network reimbursement, which can help defray the costs related to care provided by you or a member of your social bubble. For more details about out-of-network reimbursement, please call 877-BH-Cares (877-242-2737).
