UCSF Mission Bay Child Care Center
A new child care center is being constructed on the Mission Bay Campus to provide UCSF families with expanded on-campus child care services. Once construction is complete, the children from the current center will move to the new facility and then the old center will be demolished.
Bright Horizons, LLC, operates all UCSF child care centers and will also operate the new Mission Bay Child Care Center. Bright Horizons is the largest provider of employer-sponsored child care in the United States and has been serving UCSF since 2003.
Beginning mid-February, concrete pouring and asphalt paving will occur north and west of the new child care center. This work will develop future parking lots, including zoned passenger loading for the new child care center. Concrete pouring will occur in the area immediately behind the current child care center on February 20, 21 and 22, 8-11 am.
A temporary power generator will be installed in the southeast corner of Block 18c. It will be relocated to the northeast corner, and then to the northwest corner of the block, over the coming weeks through mid-February to support development of the new center.
Equipment and materials will be delivered and moved with greater frequency.
Playgrounds including fencing, concrete footings, turf, and equipment continue to develop.
On Block 18a, trenching will occur and soils will be off hauled to develop the electrical and telecommunications infrastructure to serve the future child care center and parking lot.
Limited trenching work will occur on Gene Friend Way, just south of the child care center, to lay conduit and prepare for transformer installation. Work will involve excavating and jackhammering. Pedestrian access along Gene Friend Way will be maintained, but occasionally reduced, to accommodate the work.
