UCSF Fitness Centers Perfect for Busy University Staff

For Monica Mapa, marketing and communications manager with UC San Francisco Campus Life Services, the UCSF Fitness & Recreation Centers are the perfect fit for her busy lifestyle.
“I always have a lot of balls in the air at work with projects, committees, and serving as a marketing consultant for a large number of departments,” Mapa said. “I don’t have the type of schedule that allows me to go to the gym at the same time every day. I’ll work out when I have the opportunity and having a gym at both Parnassus and Mission Bay is convenient.”
Mapa typically runs on a treadmill and does some free weights and core work on her own. “I enjoy taking classes at the fitness center and can do that on the weekends but during the week fitness class schedules don’t always work for me but I know the treadmill and weights are available whenever I come to the gym.”
What advice does Mapa give other UCSF employees who say they don’t have time to work out? “You have to make yourself a priority because nobody else is going to do that. Find a time during the day that works for you, even if it’s not the same time every day, but always find time for your health.”
Mapa said exercising helps her relax, clear her head, and feel healthier and sharper at work. She also likes that the gyms are clean, the staff is very friendly, and gym members represent the best of San Francisco. “It’s such a diverse membership and it’s so convenient for staff members. I highly recommend the fitness centers for our staff.”
