Move-out Checklist 2008
|
This checklist has been provided to UCSF Housing tenants to assist with your upcoming move.
If you are an Aldea San Miguel tenant on the "old contract" (you moved in prior to July 2005) or you are on a Faculty housing agreement, you
must submit a written 30-day notice of intent to vacate at least 30 days prior to your chosen date of move-out. If you are unsure of what type of contract you have,
please contact the Housing Services office.
All other tenants must move out and turn in keys by 11:00 AM on July 1, 2008 -- with the exception of those who have been granted an early termination. If you
want to terminate early, prior to July 1, please contact Housing Services for policies and procedures.
Keys are due back to Housing Services by 11:00 AM on the termination date. A daily $50 holdover fee and pro-rated rent applies for late check out. These fees
commence at 11:01 AM on your move-out date.
|
 |
- At least two weeks before your move-out date, call to schedule a preliminary move-out inspection at the front desk
| Mission Bay: |
415-514-4550 |
| Parnassus: |
514-476-2231 |
Please note that this is not required. It is your right under California law. If you choose to not have a move-out inspection, you waive your rights to dispute
any charges for damages or cleaning. By having a preliminary move-out inspection prior to departure, you allow yourself time to remedy any problems for which you
may be charged. Preliminary move-out inspections will only be conducted through Monday, June 30th.
- Address change notifications:
- U.S. Post Office of Change of Address: https://moversguide.usps.com
- Notify banks, insurance companies, magazines, alumni associations, etc.
- Remove Name Label (if any) from your mailbox
- Notify Housing Services of your Forwarding Address at check-out
- Notify Utilities Providers of Service Termination
Please do not tell PG&E to "turn off" power at your apartment. Instead, tell them to "take the billing out of your name." PG&E will not bill you for services
used after your move-out date.

- If you're using a large moving truck or container, contact Housing Services at least one week in advance to arrange permissions for large-vehicle parking
(for Aldea and Mission Bay only - Avenue Houses and Irving are subject to City Parking Regulations).
- Pay any outstanding balances on your account.
Post-departure property damage and cleaning charges will be billed to your account and are due within 90 days of move-out. We will notify you if you have any
outstanding charges. After 90 days, all outstanding accounts are turned over to a credit collections agency.
- Turn in keys to Housing Office by 11:00 AM on the day of move-out.
|
 |
If you are moving on July 1, you should know that this will be a busy day, with many people moving out at the same time. Although Housing and Parking
Services are working closely together to ease traffic problems, we anticipate congestion in the following campus areas:
- at Aldea San Miguel on Behr / Johnstone / Adolph Sutro Ct.,
- on 3rd and 5th Avenues at the Parnassus campus,
- on Irving Street between 2nd and 4th Avenues (Do NOT block MUNI trains!),
- and at the Mission Bay Campus on 4th Street. Nelson Rising Lane will not be accessible during move-out due to street construction.
|
 |
| Mission Bay Tenants should note that there are two Giants baseball games scheduled at AT&T Park during move-out week. This will significantly impact parking
and traffic. Parking Services has agreed to reserve 4th Street for move-out activities. Giants Games during move out week:
|
| Monday, June 30th 7:15pm |
| Tuesday, July 1st 7:15pm |
|
|
Mission Bay tenants who are moving out may obtain special Parking Passes for temporary street parking. These passes are for limited hours and may be obtained at the MB
Housing office.
For security reasons, please do not prop open building doors during move-out.
|
 |
| It is strongly recommended that you begin shipping and moving some of your personal items prior to your actual check-out time. From Friday, June 27 through
Tuesday, July 1, you can anticipate a "rush" (a wait for elevators, a shortage of "blue carts" at Mission Bay, traffic congestion, and lines at the Housing Offices).
At Mission Bay, a limit of 3 hours will apply to "blue cart" use. A valid Driver's License or Passport will be necessary to check out blue carts.
The Housing Services staff does not provide moving services. Here are some shipping and moving resources:
Please note that the Housing Services office will NOT accept outgoing packages for pick-up! You must plan to ship directly with your chosen company.

Your Mission Bay / Irving Laundry Card may have some credit remaining on it. Here are some options:
- You may sell or give the card to another tenant
- You may drop the card into any MB laundry room "Suggestion Box" for donation to UCSF Children's Hospital. WEB Laundry Services will collect the cards and
will send a check to the Hospital.
- If the balance of your card is $8.00 or over, you may mail the card back to WEB for a refund. Obtain a postage-paid refund envelope at the Housing Services Office.
Donate your clothes and furniture to charity. Don't leave personal items as a "gift" to staff or other tenants, as you will be charged for their proper removal.
Instead, give to one of the following charities:
- Out of the Closet (HIV/AIDS programs and services). They will come to pick up large furniture, TVs, and other large valuables. Call (877) 2 PICK IT UP --
(877) 274-2548 to schedule a donation pick-up appointment. Items may not be left at Housing Services or in public areas for pick-up.
- St. Anthony Foundation (San Francisco agency that provides 11 different programs to feed, clothe and heal the city's homeless. It is a non-profit agency that is
financially independent of any church). They will be collecting used clothing, children's toys, books, clocks, lamps and other items that are in good condition. Bring
these to the Mission Bay Housing Office or to the Millberry Union front desk at Parnassus. (June 16 - July 2)
- San Francisco Food Bank (benefits low income households and senior citizens) Bring your extra UNOPENED food to the Housing Office (at Mission Bay only) for collection in a donation bin. (June 16 - July 2)
Or try to sell your stuff. You may also post items for sale on the Mission Bay Tenant mailing list. This mailing list is for residents to buy, sell or give away
things. To subscribe to the mbh-market mailing list, send this one line message to listserv@listserv.ucsf.edu:
