Group 2a

Parnassus tenants who currently reside in a double room (sharing a bedroom with another contract holder) and wish to transfer to a Parnassus single room for the 2009 - 2010 term should elect to be in Group 2a.

In order to be a part of Group 2a, you must return the Group 2a Housing Intent Form to Housing Services by Friday, February 27th.

Tenants who elect to be in this group and return their Housing Intent Form on time will meet at the Housing Services Parnassus office on March 11th. Prior to this date, each tenant will be assigned a lottery number. Lottery numbers are assigned randomly and determine the order in which Group 2a tenants, or their proxies, will meet with the Parnassus Assignments Coordinator and select a new unit.

During this meeting, the tenant and Assignments Coordinator will discuss which Parnassus units are available. Group 2a tenants may only select from Parnassus units. If a Parnassus tenant residing in a double room wishes to live at Mission Bay he/ she should elect to be in Group 3a. Because of high occupancy rates, tenants will not be able to see units in advance. However, whenever possible, floor plans and descriptions of units will be available.

If the tenant finds a unit he or she likes, the Assignments Coordinator will record the tenant's choice. The Assignments Coordinator will send a contract to the tenant sometime between May 4th and May 8th. This contract will be due back to the Housing Services office on May 15th. If the contract is not returned by the due date, the tenant forfeits the apartment and must vacate on July 1, 2009.

Please note that on the Parnassus campus single students and single post docs may not move into Aldea San Miguel apartments. Additionally, single students and single post docs currently staying in Aldea San Miguel are not eligible to transfer to a different apartment within that complex.Tenants transferring from one apartment to another are not required to submit an initial rent payment!

All contracts will begin on July 1st, 2009 and expire on July 1st, 2010. Because all contracts end on July 1st, tenants transferring into new apartments may not be able to move into their new space until after the unit has been cleaned and prepared for a new occupant. In these situations, the tenant will stay in his or her current assignment and pay the 2009 - 2010 rental rate for that unit until the new unit is ready.

Group 2a tenants who transfer to a new apartment will, in most instances, be required to pick up the key to their new unit at 9am on a weekday, move that day, and return their old keys by 5pm.

Tenants in Group 2a who sign new contracts may cancel their 2009 - 2010 contract for any reason before June 1st. Tenants must submit a written request to Housing Services before June 1st in order to be released from their contracts.

Pharmacy 2 students: Pharmacy students entering rotations beginning Spring Quarter of the 2009 - 2010 academic year will know their rotation assignment by March 31st, 2009. Please carefully consider the location of your rotations before committing to live in campus housing for the 2009 - 2010 year. Contracts will not be cancelled after June 1st, 2009.

Students living in campus housing who are assigned to rotations outside of San Francisco beginning Spring Quarter 2010 are rent responsible for the duration of the contract through June 30, 2010; contracts will not be terminated due to the location of rotations.

If you elect to be in Group 2a but are unable to find a unit to your liking, you will not be able to renew your contract in your current unit if another tenant has selected it.

If you are unable to make your appointment, you may appoint a proxy by submitting a letter to the Housing Services office at least 24 hours before your appointment. The letter must be signed by you and must clearly designate who will be acting as your proxy. You can drop the letter off at the Housing Services office or fax it to the appropriate office. Fax numbers can be found on the Group 2a Housing Intent Form.
