12. Why do we have a separate Zip Code 94143 instead of using the local zip codes?
UCSF falls in the category of schools, hotels, prisons where the USPS delivers to one location for those activities. Due to the volume of mail UCSF receives, we were given a separate, unique zip code. This allows the USPS to capture all mail for 94143 at its central facility (PDC) on Evans St. USPS then delivers all 94143 mail it to UCSF Mail Services at 612 Forbes Blvd. in South San Francisco. This reduces multiple handling at different local Post Offices that would be required if local zip codes were used.
