UCSF Employees and Students Can Enjoy Richmond and Save Money on Outdoor Gear

Saving money on outdoor gear is fun, but it’s even more entertaining when you can also enjoy the outdoors on the same trip.

Every year, the Mountain Hardwear Employee Store in Richmond opens its doors for a limited time to UC San Francisco faculty, staff, and students. This year, the store, located at 1414 Harbour Way S. #1005, will be open to the UCSF community May 8 through June 11.

You can enjoy employee prices during this time by simply printing a copy of the invitation and showing your UCSF ID badge at checkout.

“This is a great time to access the Employee Store,” said Jen Morphis, retail marketing coordinator for Mountain Hardwear. “We just introduced prAna to the sales floor so there is a whole new brand to explore. Also, the Spring ’17 product lines from our family of brands, Columbia Sportswear, Mountain Hardwear, SOREL and prAna, offer a great combination of fashion and function for all of your spring and summer activities.”

But a trip to the East Bay for great savings on outdoor equipment, apparel, and footwear can be a lot more than just a shopping experience. The Bay Trail along Richmond’s shoreline is a hidden gem. The 3.9-mile out and back trail is good for hikers of all levels and can also be enjoyed by your four-legged family friends (be sure to bring a leash!).

Along the way, you’ll find a new brewery, wine tasting, the SS Red Oak Victory World War II cargo ship, and more.

One of the most popular attractions is the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Park located at 1401 Marina Way, S. in Richmond. The large visitor education center includes educational and interactive exhibits detailing what life was like for residents of the Bay Area during World War II.

Hiking can also make you hungry, and Richmond has several top-notch restaurants, including Assemble Restaurant located in the beautiful Craneway Pavilion; The historic Hotel Mac Restaurant, 50 Washington Ave; and the popular Pikanhas Brazilian Steakhouse at 25 W. Richmond Ave., in Port Richmond.
