Over 20 years experience

The Marilyn Reed Lucia Child Care Study Center, located at the Parnassus Campus, was named in honor of the clinical psychiatry professor who was one of the first champions of child care at UCSF. The 1,912 square-foot facility, which has been open for more than 20 years, serves up to 48 children per day, ages two through five. The Center is also accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Program Design

Children explore and learn at their own pace in a clean and comfortable environment, guided by experienced and dedicated teachers. The teaching staff and a network of substitutes and volunteers ensure that the individual needs of every child are met. The year-round curriculum includes learning activities, outdoor play, and nutritious hot meals, with a special emphasis on building relationships. Parents are warmly welcomed and encouraged to visit their children during operating hours. The Center also serves as an observation facility for UCSF programs and research projects. All projects are carefully screened by the university, Center staff, and the parents.
