Training in Ethics And The Responsible Conduct of Research

The OCPD coordinates an annual course entitled "Ethics and the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)". This course is offered at both Mission Bay and Parnassus.
Using lecture and case study formats, this course is designed to address key issues in RCR, as suggested by the NIH. Topics covered include:
• History of Scientific Misconduct and Ethical Decision
Making
• Scientific Record Keeping and Data Management
• Animals in Research: Animal Rights and Welfare
• Human Subjects in Research
• Publication and Responsible Authorship
• Research Funding and Conflicts of Interest
This course is required for second-year graduate students in the PIBS and BMS programs and is designated as BMS 214 and Neuroscience 214. Graduate students will be prompted to register for the course by their Program Administrators.
Postdocs, residents, fellows and faculty are encouraged to take an online course offered by the Office of Research. Here is a link to the course information:

However, postdocs, residents, fellows or faculty who prefer to attend the in-person, lecture-based course described above (BMS 214/Neuroscience 214) are welcome to do so. To audit this course, simply send an email announcing your intention to audit to Bill Lindstaedt (bill.lindstaedt@ucsf.edu).
